Alternate versions In November Fox released an 'Unrated Edition' which runs nearly 8 minutes longer than the theatrical version. It features deleted plot and character scenes. It also has some alternative footage and added CGI blood effects. The story is better told. The violence and gore are stronger than in the PG theatrical version. There is much more blood and more gore in the Unrated Version, however, the main theatrical version the version I'm reviewing is light on the blood and guts.
Characters are stabbed with Alien tails and Predator weapons, some quick shots of gore. A character is trapped inside a net and slowly killed, blood drips down some weapons afterwards. An alien bursts out of a character's chest, no blood seen.
A character is killed off-screen and some blood is shown spraying onto some nearby rocks. Characters are thrown into walls and tables and killed. Even though the violence level is toned down, some characters are relentlessly killed, some even mention how they have children but are still killed, which could come across as quite tasteless.
The movie has an extremely high body count most deaths are off-screen and not shown. Fantasy action violence when the two rival species fight in epic action sequences, they occasionally spray green blood and in one case, explodes green blood. Not as scary as the main Alien or Predator movies, however still has some horror images and some jump moments not too many and aren't really all that scary. It is definitely the tamest Alien and Predator movie, but if your child is looking for an Alien or Predator movie to watch, they are way better off watching the first Alien movie if they are a mature 12 year old.
And maybe this after because it is fun to watch these two species clash for 96 minutes. You should never skip the classics! An alien creature in shackles is lifted up out of ice, thaws and begins moving its limbs we hear crunching and popping.
An alien creature cuts up another alien creature a lot of slime oozes out and makes its pieces into a shield and weapon. We see the alien creatures in detail throughout the movie: some have sharp fangs a few sets of them , lots of slime, sharp claws, whip-like tails, etc.
A man hears slithering noises and is jumpy and frightened. A woman loads a gun and people prepare for an expedition 2, miles beneath ice. A woman climbs a sheer ice wall, slips and nearly falls.
We see depictions on wall carvings of alien creatures fighting each other. Three pods are launched from a spaceship and crash into ice. A sarcophagus opens with loud rumblings and smoke pours out. A spaceship fires a beam toward Earth. A man has coughing fits and uses a breather he is very ill. Be aware that while we do our best to avoid spoilers it is impossible to disguise all details and some may reveal crucial plot elements.
